Google and Coursera Partner to Retrain Job Seekers

After working in business, law, and engineering for 18 years, Thomas Wettermann returned to full-time studies and is currently earning certification as a computer information and patent analyst, focused on machine learning. To achieve this certification, Thomas Wettermann has enrolled in courses offered through Stanford’s Coursera online education platform and Google.

Google’s Grow with Google and Coursera have established an education initiative to retrain workers displaced by the pandemic for careers that do not necessarily require a degree. The two entities created certificate programs to help workers in retail and other industries affected by job losses find employment without having to earn a degree.

The program, announced in July 2020, offers the possibility to earn certificates in areas such as data analytics, IT support, user experience design, and project management. Google also agreed to fund 100,000 need-based scholarships for these programs. Up to this point, the most popular certificate programs is for Google's IT Support.
